Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema has taken an early lead in the Presidential Election results announced so far.

The announcement for Saturday was second after the first one that was carried out on Friday night.
Of the 226 constituencies in Zambia, the commission has announced results stemming from only 27 so far.

From these results, incumbent President Hichilema of the United Party for National Development has so far polled 243 thousand five hundred and nine.

His closest contender, Brian Mundubile of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Progress (NRPUP), is trailing with 161 thousand eight hundred eighty-three.

The rest of the other twelve contenders are far from the race with decimal percentages.

The Thursday general elections in Zambia had about eight million registered voters.
Of these, only about 60% turned out to cast their votes.

The final winner of the presidential vote is expected to be announced within 72 hours from the close of the polls, which went into Saturday.
