Residents, calling themselves members of the Landless People's Movement (LPM), have reiterated their demand for the removal of Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Councillor Joseph Isaack.

They accused the regional councillor of failing to bring much-needed socio-economic development.

Recently expelled LPM member Vernon Coleman handed over a petition to Isaack in which the protestors complained about the absence of a functional Constituency Development Committee, which coordinates all social and economic development efforts in the constituency.

LPM's Willem Labuschagne wins Keetmanshoop Rural constituency's by-election

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) has retained the Keetmanshoop Rural constituency after its candidate, Willem Labuschagne, won the by-election.

The Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency seat became vacant after LPM recalled its former regional councillor, Gerrit Witbooi, who also contested as an independent candidate.

Labuschagne was declared the winner after he garnered 1,272 votes.

Swapo Party candidate Elias !Kharuxab obtained 872 votes, while Witbooi received 462 votes.

ECN Accused of Handling Election Material Without Party Officials

Members of the Landless Peoples' Movement (LPM) stormed into the Keetmanshoop Police Station last night after one of their members alerted them that the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) officials were allegedly offloading sensitive election material without the presence of party officials.

 

They claimed the move was compromising the fair outcome of the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency election scheduled for Monday.

 

SWAPO in ||Kharas dismiss claims of leadership backing independent candidate

The Swapo Party in the ||Kharas Region has rubbished speculations that some of its leadership backs independent candidate Gerrit Witbooi rather than the party's candidate Elias !Kharuxab in the upcoming by-election.

The by-election in the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency, which is necessitated by the recent withdrawal of Witbooi by the Landless People's Movement (LPM) as Regional Councillor, is slated for May 15.

LPM leader appeals to Alweendo to prosecute Xinfeng Investment

Landless People's Movement (LPM) Leader Bernadus Swaartbooi has appealed to the Mines and Energy Minister to consider criminal prosecution against Xinfeng Investment and the Environmental Commissioner over the alleged illegal mining operations near Uis. 

Swaartbooi says if Minister Tom Alweendo's investigation into the allegations reveals that there has been falsification of documents or a breach of law, then the two parties must be prosecuted. 

Registration for Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency by-election kicked off

The supplementary registration of voters for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency by-election kicked off this morning.

ECN's Regional Constituency Supervisor at Keetmanshoop, Rosaline Keramen, says all logistics are in place for the supplementary registration.

The by-election became necessary following the expulsion of former Landless People's Movement (LPM) regional councilor, Gerrit Witbooi.

Speaking to nbc News, Keramen says that all teams have been dispatched to registration points in the constituency.

Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency anticipates by-election

Another by-election could be held in the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency after the Landless People's Movement (LPM) recalled its regional councilor, Gerrit Witbooi.

LPM's Operative Secretary Dawid Eigub informed ||Kharas Regional Council that it has released Witbooi from his position with immediate effect.

However, the letter did not state reasons that supported the party's withdrawal decision.

Recently, the party had suspended Witbooi from participating in the ||Kharas Regional Council activities for a period of three months.

LPM's Gerrit Witbooi suspended for a period of three months

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) has suspended its councilor on the ||Kharas Regional Council, Gerrit Witbooi, for a period of three months.

Witbooi has been on the council since his election as Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency Councillor in 2020. 

The letter restraining Councillor Witbooi from partaking in council activities was confirmed by the party's spokesperson, Eneas Emvula. 

Equally, LPM banned the councilor from attending five council meetings, including extraordinary ones, and six council management meetings.

LPM dismayed at infrastructure vandalism at Swakopmund's informal settlements

The Landless People's Movement is dismayed at the vandalism of infrastructure, which it says is hampering the development of electrification in Swakopmund's informal settlements.

This was brought to light by the party's leader in the region, Elvis Goseb, at a media conference.

Goseb says the challenges with informal settlements in Swakopmund are unpredictable shack fires, which have left many residents homeless.
