The leader of the Landless People's Movement, Bernardus Swartbooi, has reminded party members to be responsible and accountable.
He made the call during the movement's first policy conference held in Windhoek today.
Success in policy formulation and policy implementation depends on good governance and rule-based institutions, says Swartbooi.
Further emphasising that respect for that is aligned with the national constitution and steered by competent leaders who are democratic in executing their mandates.
The movement's leader emphasised that political leadership is the bedrock of a strong and competent public institution with responsible leaders.
''They sometimes do not internalise sufficiently the struggle that was waged and the institutions that you must now lead as a mayor, as a chairperson, what it means sociologically, politically, historically, what does it mean, and what is the weight that I must carry. I can be on social media today with a dress way down here, and the next day I am an honourable mayor with the mayoral chain on my bare chest. What does that mean? What were the efforts made by the people who were never greedy and who stood up for our freedoms that we take for granted today?
He stressed that the subjects contained in the policy conference are meant to sharpen the delegates as a collective of the movement.
The LPM, Swartbooi noted, is purposed to transform society for the better, to produce a self-sufficient society.
Warning his party leadership, who show tendencies towards political opportunism, disregard the rules of qualitative leadership and learning, and consider political offices as a space for self-enrichment.
About 250 delegates from all corners of the country will engage in robust discussions, including strategies for employment creation in rural Namibia, the national budget responsiveness to employment creation, and asserting the role of civil society in the current political climate.
