Crop production among communal farmers in Namibia is declining, raising serious concern. 

This was highlighted by Technical Advisor for Crops and Poultry at Agribank, Hanks Saisai.

The Agricultural Bank of Namibia has announced that it will move into the implementation phase of its arrears relief programme, set to begin on the 2nd of February 2026. 

Agribank has announced a new Arrears Relief Rollout Programme aimed at assisting farmers who struggle with loan repayments.

Grain farmers in the Zambezi Region have welcomed the Agribank Agronomy Loan Scheme.

Maize farmers are hopeful the new agronomy loan schemes will change the current challenges they face.

The president of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), McHenry Venaani, said farmers who want to buy land through Agribank are finding it difficult to access land, taking them up to six months.

He explained that this is because people selling land are only willing to do so through commercial banks.

Agribank has extended N$22.8 million to farmers in the northern regions in this current financial year.

Of this amount, N$6.9 million is allocated to the Oshana Region.

Miss Namibia 2018, who is also the Director of the Innonation Foundation, Selma Kamanya, has reiterated the call to provide children with nutritious food.

Kamanya said this at the handover of a backyard garden to the Bernard Norkamp Centre in Windhoek.

The government will fund various youth programs, aimed at capacity building and skills development.

Several State Owned Enterprises reiterated their commitment to finance agricultural activities to ensure food security in the country.

The commitments were made by the Agribank, DBN and the Environment Investment Fund at a three-day workshop on food security in Windhoek.

The Agricultural Bank of Namibia (Agribank) and the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to the co-financing of controlled-environment agriculture activities in Namibia.
