Finance Minister requests security for Namcor Board chairperson Jennifer Comalie

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Iipumbu Shiimi has requested the Nampol Inspector-General, Joseph Shikongo to conduct a threat assessment on Namcor Board chairperson, Jennifer Comalie and provide necessary security to her.

Shiimi, in a letter to Lt. Gen. Shikongo, said that Comalie had informed him and Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo that she was worried about her safety and that of her daughter, during a meeting last week.

Finance Minister Ipumbu Shiimi launches national Codes of Good Practice

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ipumbu Shiimi says the coming into force of the Codes of Good Practice is an important step in promoting economic growth and encouraging local investment in the country.

Shiimi said this at the launch of the Codes of Good Practice, aimed at promoting, facilitating and strengthening the implementation of the empowerment and industrialization policies of the government.

N$2 billion Germany loan towards economic development programs to see creation of jobs

A N$2 billion loan towards economic development programs will see about 350 jobs created in Namibia through water and road rehabilitation projects.

This comes after Namibia and Germany signed financial cooperation agreements to support key infrastructure development.

The projects entail the construction of a second direct potable reclamation plant in the central area of Namibia and support for projects under the water sector support program at a cost of N$746 million and N$932 million, respectively.

Finance Minister Shiimi concerned over the state of audited financial reports

The Minister of Finance, Iipumbu Shiimi has once again expressed concern over the state of audited financial reports at some town councils and state-owned entities.

Tabling a number of annual reports of various town councils and parastatals in the National Assembly, Shiimi says the reports leave much to be desired in terms of their compilation. 

The finance minister highlighted the Auditor General's opinions in all the reports in question, mainly qualified - which refers to the need for much more to be done to improve the quality of these reports.
