NamRA's creative industry engagement session

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) is inviting the creative industry for a stakeholder engagement session next Tuesday.

The engagement session is necessitated following concerns from the creatives on tax registration and payment.

Appropriate tax categories for their profession, as well as challenges at borders with customs officials when they import or export their material, will be addressed.

Foreigners arrested on tax evasion, bribery charges

Two foreign nationals were arrested for attempting to bribe an official of NamRA with N$50,000 in Windhoek.

The arrest of the two foreign nationals follows a sting operation by NamRA and the Anti-Corruption Commission.

In a statement, NamRA revealed that a Chinese man and an Angolan woman were arrested at its offices and ACC premises on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

The bribe was intended to influence the release of N$6 million belonging to a trading entity that has been subjected to intervention.

NamRA concern over fishing sector tax contribution

The Nambia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has expressed concern over the minimal contribution of the fishing sector in taxes.

Its Board members and Executive Management paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob at State House.

The fishing sector is one of Namibia's key contributors to the Gross Domestic Product, yet its contribution to the taxman is one of the lowest.

As of March this year, NamRA had collected about N$57 billion in taxes, and the sector accounts for only about 2%.

Tax refund scam stands at N$833 million

The amount of a tax refund scam that was uncovered last year now stands at N$833 million.

The Namibian Revenue Agency (NamRA) says the network of tax evasion involves 1,168 taxpayers across 84 institutions.

In a media statement, NamRA reports that as of the 18th of July, the investigation had brought to light an astounding total amount of N$833 million, a staggering increase from the initial N$15 million reported in March last year and N$136 million in January.

The scam includes companies, government offices, ministries, agencies, and public institutions.

GIPF creates awareness and provides services to the public in Outapi

The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) held a stakeholder engagement at Outapi, Omusati Region, to create awareness and provide services to the public.

The engagement focused on inquiries such as admission, housing, the claim of benefits, the printing of benefit statements, medical aid, complaint handling, and issues related to taxes.

Institutions such as NamFISA, NamRA, First Capital Namibia, Kuleni, PSEMAS, and Allan Grey were also there.

Keetmanshoop residents raise tax issues

Keetmanshoop residents raised concerns about issues relating to domestic as well as import taxes during the NamRa stakeholder engagement meeting held in the southern town.

The stakeholder's engagement was aimed at educating taxpayers on legislative requirements, tax obligations, and voluntary tax compliance.

NamRa figures show the southern regions of Hardap and ||Kharas have a combined 62,000 registered taxpayers. 

Of this total, 26,000 submit their annual tax returns electronically.

NamRA exceeds estimated target for 2022

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NAMRA)'s estimated target of N$53 billion was exceeded by N$4 billion in 2022

This was revealed at the award ceremony for the top tax contributors in Windhoek.

About 37 top taxpayers and traders were recognized for paying their taxes and trading.

The top awardees included De Beers Marine Namibia, Anheuser-Busch Inbev Namibia, First National Bank, and Bank Windhoek.

NamRA's Commissioner Sam Shivute urged those defaulting on their taxes to do their part and contribute to the development of the country.

NamRA Employees at Trans-Kalahari/Mamuno Border Post to Receive Decent Houses

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) says all its staff members stationed at the Trans-Kalahari/Mamuno Border Post will soon receive decent houses.

NamRA, alongside other border agencies, has seconded additional staff members to the Trans-Kalahari/Mamuno Border Post to man the 24-hour operations.

Accommodation for the employees has since been made a priority as construction of houses is about to commence.

NamRA Commissioner Sam Shivute says the provision of houses for staff members at the border post would help in the non-compromising of service delivery.

NamRA celebrates International Customs Day at Oshikango

The Namibia Revenue Agency joined the global customs community in commemorating International Customs Day at Oshikango border post in Ohangwena region. 

NamRA's Commissioner Sam Shivute says NAMRA chose to make the day at Oshikango, because it's a major hive of business activity.

The day is celebrated to acknowledge the crucial duties that customs officials perform daily.

Shivute says NamRA will continue to build on the legacy set by the government through the Finance Ministry and in line with the protocol of the World  Customs Organization.

NamRa confiscated cocaine valued at N$5,1 million

The Namibia Revenue Agency on Sunday confiscated cocaine valued at N$5,1 million at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, and a 40-year-old South African national has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The drugs were discovered concealed in the South African national's luggage after a scanning process was conducted.

The cocaine powder weighed 10,270 kg.

The suspect, who was coming from Brazil, is currently in the hands of the police and is set to appear in court in the coming days.
