National Council endorses proposed Bills

The National Council has given its endorsement to a series of proposed Bills and amendments, marking a significant step toward their eventual enactment into law.

The bills, which were sent to the Upper House by the National Assembly for further scrutiny, underwent extensive debate and deliberation.

During the committee stage of the National Council's proceedings, Victoria Kauma, Chairperson of the Council Committee and Deputy Chairperson of the National Council, reported the agreed Bills as accepted without any amendments.

Shifeta to decide on Recon Africa's Environmental Clearance Certificate amendments

The Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, is set to decide whether the amendments made to Recon Africa's Environmental Clearance Certificate were lawful or not.

This comes after concerned members of the public launched an appeal against the Environmental Commissioner's decision to grant an amendment.

Finance Deputy Minister introduces changes to VAT, Stamp Duties and Income Tax

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, has tabled amendments to three laws in the financial sector in the National Assembly.

These are the Value Added Tax, Stamp Duties, and the Income Tax.

In her motivation, Hinda-Mbuende explained that the proposed changes to the Value Added Tax deal with amendments to the definition and the assessment of what taxable activities are.
