Opposition MPs express mixed feelings on 2023–2024 budget

Opposition MPs in the National Assembly have expressed mixed feelings on the money allocated to various government ministries during a debate on the 2023–2024 budget.

While welcoming the N$100 increment in social grants, especially for pension and disability, opposition MPs believe the allocated money is not enough, considering the skyrocketing cost of living.

Isaacks further rejected the N$10 million budgeted for agricultural projects at the Nekertal Dam, saying this is insufficient.

Opposition MPs in the National Assembly said the medium-term budget does not address issues facing the youth, nor does the government have concrete plans to tackle unemployment and housing.

RDP President Mike Kavekotora says he is worried that the biggest portion of the budget is earmarked for operational expenditures.

The MPs argued that the money was supposed to have been allocated to address the pressing needs of ordinary citizens.
