Opposition MPs in the National Assembly have expressed mixed feelings on the money allocated to various government ministries during a debate on the 2023–2024 budget.

While welcoming the N$100 increment in social grants, especially for pension and disability, opposition MPs believe the allocated money is not enough, considering the skyrocketing cost of living.

Isaacks further rejected the N$10 million budgeted for agricultural projects at the Nekertal Dam, saying this is insufficient.

NEFF and APP leaders in the house expressed concern on a number of national challenges, from unemployment to the high cost of living, saying the budget falls short of addressing all of these.

Deputy Minister of ICT, Emma Theofelus, while welcoming the increase in social grants, expressed hope that future budget allocations would do more to ensure economic recovery.

Other Swapo Party MPs, Leevi Katoma and Sebastian Karupu supported the budget in its entirety and called for its full implementation.

The debate continues in the legislative chamber.
