Deputy Speaker Loide Kasingo leads delegation to Pan-African Parliament session

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Loide Kasingo, is heading a delegation to the Extraordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament at the parliament's headquarters in Midrand, South Africa. 

The session is scheduled to run from March 20th to March 27th, 2024.

The purpose of the Extraordinary Session is to conduct elections to fill vacant positions in the Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament. 

The election is scheduled to occur on Monday next week.

Namibia observes Commonwealth Day

Namibia joined the rest of the Commonwealth family in celebrating Commonwealth Day.

The event took place in front of the steps of the Parliament Gardens.

The day commemorates the commonwealth of nations, a diverse assembly of 56 nations worldwide bound by common heritage, customs, and principles. 

This occasion highlights the dedication of commonwealth members to principles such as democracy, fairness, and the collective endeavour towards universal prosperity.

Cancellation of NA on Wednesday deemed un-procedural

The cancellation of the National Assembly's Wednesday session raised eyebrows among members, as it was deemed neither procedural nor in line with parliamentary rules.

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Maximalliant Katjimune explained that there is no provision in the rules that dictates that the speakership may just cancel the session in the middle of it when there was no reference to any rules whatsoever.

The Deputy Speaker, Loide Kasingo, apologised and cited unspecified reasons for the cancellation.

National Assembly adjourns business until February 14, 2023

The National Assembly has adjourned its business until February 14, 2023.

Today's session did not consider any items other than the Speaker, Prof. Peter Katjavivi, his Deputy, Loide Kasingo, and Youth, Sport, and National Service Minister, Agnes Tjongarero, as well as Swapo Party Chief Whip in the House, Hamunyera Hambyuka, wishing fellow MPs the best of wishes for Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Thursdays are normally devoted to hearing answers from members of the Executive to questions posed by opposition MPs.

Loide Kasingo, the leader of a delegation of lawmakers in Namibia to the Pan-African Parliament has refused to shed light on a heated incident involving one of its members in a recent session, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The leader and chief change campaigner of the Landless People's Movement Bernadus Swartbooi was asked to leave a plenary session by security personnel for allegedly using foul language, a few days ago.
