Recruitment drive for Namcol CEO at advanced stage

The Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka, says the recruitment process for Namcol's Chief Executive Officer is nearing a conclusion.

She said a formal submission has since been made to the ministry by the board.

Nghipondoka was responding to a query from Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Hidipo Hamata about the timeline for the selection process.

NAMCOL ready for 2024 academic year

With less than two weeks to go before students eagerly queue up for enrollment and registration, the Namibian College for Open Learning (NAMCOL) is preparing for the last-minute rush.

The institution may still appear deserted with no students on campus, but preparations for the upcoming academic year are well underway.

NAMCOL Marketing Officer Freddy Kaukungua shed light on the institution's preparedness for the upcoming enrollment rush, outlining steps taken by the institution to ensure a smooth enrollment.

NAMCOL appoints board members

The Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka, urged the newly appointed board members to prioritise transparency and foster collaborative efforts for the promising future of NAMCOL.

In inaugurating the nine-member board, Nghipondoka mentioned that the Ministry envisions NAMCOL's evolution into an open university.

Dr. Herta Ndatengomwa Pomuti and Tonata Uwanga were re-appointed.

Evelyn Namoya, David Jarrett, Rachel Kalipi, Evelina Nsinano, John Kauhanda, Dr. Heroldt Murangi, and Sanet Steenkamp are new members of the board of directors.

NAMCOL Career Fair

The Namibian College of Open Learning provides an opportunity for school learners to familiarise themselves with deeper and more detailed information on the types of careers they are interested in.

The institution's career fair, which is expected annually, aims at introducing and promoting possible careers to the learners and, at the same time, exposing them to various fields.

The fair is an experience for learners from different schools in the capital with different experts from various institutes to provide a deeper understanding and knowledge when choosing a career.

Recent graduates entering a world of constant change and uncertainty

The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Ebson Uanguta says recent graduates are entering a world of constant change and uncertainty, and they need to swiftly succeed in that environment. 

Uanguta was addressing Namibian College of Open Learning graduates in Windhoek. 

It was a jovial affair as parents and loved ones celebrated the academic achievements of 537 graduates at NAMCOL. 

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank told the graduates they must have a hunger to succeed if they want to make it in the forever-changing world of work.  

NAMCOL holds annual prize-giving ceremony

Hard work pays off for NAMCOL's top performers, as the parastatal awarded 40 top achievers in the Senior Secondary Certificate last year who walked
away with more than N$50,000 in cash prizes.

The prize-giving ceremony is NAMCOL's annual token of appreciation for the hard work, and dedication of its learners.

The best overall NSSCO learner in 2022 is Joseph Othello who obtained four A's and received a voucher as well as N$15,000 for his scholarship, and a tablet.

The northeastern region emerged as the best-performing among the regions.

NAMCOL prepared to admit more failed learners

The Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) says it can admit more learners who failed to qualify for tertiary institutions with additional support from the government.

NAMCOL's Director for Curriculum and Material Development, Jan Nitchke, was part of the meeting at State House and shared recommendations accordingly.

Enrollments are scheduled to start on the 30th of January.

Problems in the education system make it impossible for teachers to deliver- Vihemba

The education system is plagued by a lot of problems that make it impossible for teachers to deliver.

This was said by National African Students Association President Paulus Vihemba.

NASA President Paulus Vihemba stated that the association took time to evaluate the Namibian National Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level and Advanced Subsidiary Level results.

He attributed the failure of learners to a lack of commitment from the stakeholders, such as school management, automatic promotion, learners, and the Ministry of Education, Art, and Culture.
