Craft Bistro co-owner Petra Illing withdraws lawsuit against Home Affairs Ministry

The co-owner of the Craft Bistro at the Windhoek Craft Centre, Petra Illing has withdrawn her lawsuit against the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.

Illing’s latest action comes after she and the ministry reached an agreement.

Part of the agreement states that the ministry will no longer undertake to arrest or detain Illing for not being in possession of a visa, pending the determination of Illing’s short-term employment visa which was submitted last in December 2022.

Craft Bistro restaurant co-owner Petra Illing has filed an urgent application at the Windhoek High Court.

The businesswoman wants the court to stop the minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security from deporting her.

Illing, a German national, has been in Namibia for 28 years and says she regards Namibia as her permanent home.

Petra Illing was picked up by immigration officials on Wednesday at her place of business and was subsequently given 48 hours to leave Namibia.
