McHenry Venaani also briefed the media on the imminent deportation of Namibian asylum seekers in the United Kingdom after he met the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Venaani says the meeting with Nandi-Ndaitwa was fruitful, saying it would be a lengthy process to deport those Namibians back home.
He reminded the governments of both countries to follow international laws that deal with issues surrounding migration and asylum seekers.
"The Namibians that are in Europe are there because of socio-economic issues that confront this country; they are seeking asylum for reasons known to them; it is therefore within the rights of the international legal instruments for them to be protected, and the UK Government must conform and comply with the international legal framework. We have impressed upon the DPM that it is in our national interest that these people bring a lot home. If you look at villages, those that never had running water or toilets, they do today. The DPM was impressed that there are Namibians in the health sector, and that is a good thing for us."
