A resident of Kongola in the Zambezi Region Lucas Kulandata has lost 17 heads of cattle after they were struck by lightning.

Kulandata said when the clouds were forming, he sensed danger.

After it finished raining, and Kulandata said he called the cattle herder to fill him in on what might have transpired in the forest.

The news was however disappointing because 17 of his 95 cattle were struck by lightning.

The 21-year-old cattle herder was also hit and was rushed to the clinic for pain in one of his legs.

Kulandata said he suffered a huge loss.

"We are not working anymore, our work is only to cultivate land and farm with livestock. These cattle if you sell some you take to your children's wellbeing, I have my child who is at UNAM, and I pay for her studies from these cattle, until she graduates, but all that has become difficult for me, with time I could take one or two from this livestock like I did early this year when I took a heifer and a bull that I slaughtered at sold at Kalumba all for her."

"I incurred loses to the value of N$200 000, these were not old livestock but young and some are Brahmans while others are mixed breeds."

The emotional Kulandata feels lost because cattle struck by lightning cannot be sold nor eaten.
