Co-hosting the 2027 International Cricket Council's World Cup could have a massive impact on Namibia's economy. 

This can, however, only be achieved if the country's facilities are upgraded timely as per ICC standards.

This was explained by ICC Chairperson Greg Barclay during his recent visit to Namibia.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in 2021 that Namibia will co-host the ICC Men's World Cup in 2027, together with neighbouring South Africa and Zimbabwe.

This is a worldclass event that has the power to significantly impact Namibia's economy, and the potential to reach close to two-and-a-half billion people.

Barclay says the economic benefit is massive - both in terms of direct and indirect exposure. 

Prior to the senior men's event, Namibia and Zimbabwe will co-host the 2026 ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup.

Namibia has two years to prepare for these events - on the basis that the country actually has the facilities required by the ICC. 

Cricket Namibia's CEO Johan Muller says Namibians are privileged to have been visited by the highest office and to tap into Barclay's knowledge and understanding of the game.

Cricket Namibia is focused on effecting continuous improvements and progress in the sports code.
