Members of the Nakabolelwa Sabbath Church are asking for donations to rebuild and restore their church, which burned to the ground on Sunday.

According to the Chairperson of the Village Development Committee, Mayanga Lyamine, who is also a member of the Mayanga Lyamine church, it is believed that someone made a fire nearby to burn a snake.

The flames, however, spread and reached all the way to the church building, which quickly caught fire to the grass roofing and burned to the ground.

"We now have a lot of problems; we don't even know how we will rebuild the church. We have to start over, with all the damage on top of that. We have no idea what we will do, we don't even know where we will attend church or whether it will have to be under a tree, we dont know. We are very disoriented right now."

Lyamine says the incident has brought losses that will delay future plans to build a bigger and more permanent structure.

Zinc roofing materials that had been stored inside also burnt to ashes, as well as chairs, bibles, membership documents and dishes.

Another church member, Charles Shakanda, says they hope their plea for assistance will be heard.

"We are asking donors to help us, even other churches; it does not matter what church it may be, but anyone able and willing to assist, we hope you will hear our cry."

The damage is estimated at around N$5000.
