Namibia has approved about N$1.8 million (US$100,000) in humanitarian aid to Malawi following a request from that country for the rehabilitation of the victims of Tropical Cyclone Freddy last month. According to the United Nations, about US$70 million is needed to rehabilitate the country.
A draft assessment report estimates that 2.3 million people have been affected by the cyclone, with 1.6 million severely food insecure, over 650,000 people displaced, and over 600 deaths.
The announcement was made by Information and Communication Technology Minister, Peya Mushelenga, during the Cabinet Briefing today.
