The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service aims to prioritize the revamping of sport facilities across the country as part of their 2023/24 developmental plan.
The budget allocated to the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service amounts to over 470 million, which will be divided across various areas, including the long-awaited renovation of the country's sport facilities.
Deputy Minister Emma Kantema-Gaomas said the money will be used to revitalize sport infrastructure.
“You may have realized during the motivation, we have made sufficient amounts allocated to sports infrastructure. We are cognizant that our sports infrastructure is not in a desirable state and for us to really ensure that we make the environment conducive for Sport to be promoted. We have then catered an amount that will ensure that we upgrade our stadiums” Kantema-Gaomas said.
Thirty-Seven million and Five hundred thousand Namibia dollars have been set aside to start the renovations and upgrading of the stadiums, including the Independence Stadium which was declassified as a hosting stadium for FIFA and CAF competitions.
This declassification has resulted in the national football teams playing their home-games in neighboring South Africa.
According to Kantema- Gaomas, the Ministry finally received the long-awaited Facilities Audit Report for Windhoek's Independence Stadium, Swakopmund's Vineta Stadium and the Oshakati Stadium.
This report will ensure that any renovations and upgrade work will be done in line with the Confederation of African Football and FIFA standards.
Other sport facilities will also be revamped, including at Usakos, Mariental, Nkurenkuru, Otjiwarongo and the Luderitz Waterfront.
