President Hage Geingob has emphasized that the second round of scholarships for studies in Green Hydrogen and related fields would pay specific attention to the ||Kharas and Hardap regions.

Dr. Geingob addressed a community meeting at Luderitz on Friday, where he clarified that he requested a review of the process to ensure inclusivity.

Last month, the government, through funding from the German government, awarded more than 90 scholarships to deserving Namibians to study Green Hydrogen and related fields at institutions of higher learning in Namibia and Germany.

Of the 93 successful recipients, only four were from the ||Kharas Region.

President Geingob says the selection process was done by an independent panel comprising representatives from NTA, NCRST, UNAM, NUST, and the VTC, as well as relevant industry players.

The government has since announced that there will be a second round of applications for those who did not make the first cut.

President Geingob wants the process to be inclusive, saying that consultations with the two regional governors could ensure, qualified persons hailing from the south are not overlooked.

The Head of State also appealed for sensitivity during the selection process, since the envisaged green hydrogen industry is expected to benefit the entire country.

The ||Kharas Regional Council is pleased with the President's intervention.

President Hage Geingob, accompanied by members of the Green Hydrogen Council of Namibia held the first of many regional update sessions with stakeholders on the envisaged development of green hydrogen around the Tsau-||Khaeb National Park in the ||Kharas Region.
