Vendors lauded Luderitz Crayfish Festival

The just-ended Luderitz Crayfish Festival has once again proven to be a significant boost for small and medium enterprises. 

Vendors who were showcasing their products and services say the festival exceeded their financial expectations. 

As usual, the annual event attracted a huge crowd of visitors and was filled with mouth-watering seafood, entertainment, a mini-expo, and fun-filled activities. 

Nandi-Ndaitwah tours factories in Luderitz

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has commended the NovaNam fishing company at Luderitz for adding value to local produce. 

She made the observation after a tour of the fish factory as part of her working visit to ||Kharas Region. 

The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, and ||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick.

The Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, has called for collective efforts to bolster sustainable business practices. 

She made the call while officiating on behalf of the Minister of Industrialisation and Trade, Lucia Iipumbu, at the Luderitz Crayfish Festival Business Conference.

Minister Dausab says the one-day business conference themed 'Luderitz Bucht: Unlocking Business Opportunities'  marks a significant moment, given the emerging green hydrogen as well as oil and gas industries under development at Luderitz and surrounding areas. 

Ida Jimmy !Ha-Eiros remembered as a fearless and selfless fighter

Residents of Luderitz remembered late Swapo Party liberation struggle stalwart Ida Jimmy !Ha-Eiros as a fearless and selfless fighter for Namibia's independence at a memorial service held in the town.

Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros died on April 3 at the age of 79.

Delivering tributes at the memorial service, fellow party members reflected on their journey with Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros during the anti-apartheid struggle era.

Honouring and celebrating her life, mourners sang liberation songs in her memory.

Namibia achieves 87% TB treatment success rate, nearing 90% target

Namibia has achieved a TB treatment success rate of 87%, 3% short of its 90% target.

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, revealed this at the World TB Day held at Luderitz in the Kharas Region. 

With the eleventh highest TB incidence in the world, the World Health Organisation (WHO) listed Namibia as a highly TB-burdened country. 

President Mbumba urges stability in Luderitz amidst anticipated economic growth

As the town of Luderitz is anticipating growth in economic activity, President Nangolo Mbumba called for stability to prevail as one of the enabling factors.

Dr. Mbumba was on a working visit to Luderitz in the ||Kharas Region.

The envisaged green hydrogen and ammonia productions are expected to start, and different industry stakeholders are preparing themselves for an influx to Luderitz.

Namibia draws lessons from oil producing economies

Namibia can draw lessons from other oil-producing economies as the country positions itself to ensure a sustainable future.

The country is expected to be among the top 15 oil producers in Africa by 2035, should it stay clear of corrupt practices and mismanagement of natural resources.

Speaking at a public lecture on Preventing the Dutch Disease: How to Position Namibia's Oil and Gas Endowments at Lüderitz organised by the Bank of Namibia, its Governor, Johannes !Gawaxab said new discoveries could potentially double the country's GDP and its output.

Luderitz Crayfish Festival ready for kick-off

It's all systems go for this year's annual Luderitz Crayfish Festival, with all preparations in place to make the event exciting and bigger.
 
One of the festival's Board of Trustees, Clive Gawa!nab, said this during the event's launch and fundraising dinner at Luderitz. 

Gawa!nab says the festival, set for May 1st to May 5th, is expected to attract over 7,000 visitors. 

About 100 exhibitors, including corporate entities and SMEs, are expected to showcase their services and products at the festival.

Luderitz Crayfish Festival raises N$800,000

More than N$800,000 was raised at the 17th edition of the Luderitz Crayfish Festival at the fundraising dinner. 

Standard Bank Namibia pledged the highest amount of N150,000 towards the hosting of the festival. 

The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Derek Klazen, officially launched the festival in Luderitz. 

Renowned for attracting visitors and locals alike, the festival offers attendees the chance to taste fresh rock lobster, enjoy entertainment, and listen to live music.
