Plans are underway to establish a Namibian broadcasting Corporation regional office in Lüderitz aimed to strengthen the public broadcaster presence in the western part of the ||Kharas region.
The NBC delegation was on a fact finding mission at the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company (LWDC), discussing the proposed office and exploring possible partnerships.
During the visit, LWDC Chief Executive Officer Fluksman Samuehl highlighted the town's rapid economic growth and transformation, saying a permanent NBC presence would ensure that these developments are captured and shared with the nation.
"We want to do it right from the beginning, we want to put up standards that represents also our company, So we will show you the space, its going to be a sea view studio, there are plans already developed, these plans need to be confirmed by your team, than we will move forward."
The LWDC team also presented the proposed NBC office layout and its envisioned as a modern broadcasting hub equipped with radio and television production facilities.
NBC Acting Chief of News and Programming, Peter Denk said establishing an office in the harbour town will allow the national broadcaster to stay connected to the towns development and provide consistent coverage of the region.
“For us to be setting up an office here, there should not be any reason for debate whether there will be a need to set up an office here, it just make sense in so many ways, economically , costing , we need to be Intune of the rhythm of Lüderitz in terms of how it develops, so we can record and let people know.”
The delegation also visited NovaNam, a company under the Nueva Pescanova Group One of Namibia leading hake fishing and processing companies, where discussions focused on possible collaboration in supporting the establishment of the regional office.
Executive Director of NovaNam, Manu Namukomba had this to say.
"The presence here in Lüderitz will make a big difference and that realisation and we are happy, we are happy to cooperate with NBC in whatever form, whatever manner and also your initiative to set up your office to be successful and will be successful.”
The delegation further toured around the various facilities of the LWDC and NovaNam fish processing factory as part of their visit.
