State House says President Hage Geingob and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa will discuss bilateral issues including the Orange River Border question, the Southern African Customs Union as well as regional, continental and international matters of mutual concern.
President Geingob is set to undertake a three-day state visit to South Africa on invitation by President Ramaphosa.
The State visit is expected to afford Namibia and South Africa an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation, enhance economic cooperation; explore trade and investment and also identify new areas of cooperation in the fields of energy with emphasis on Green Hydrogen, Oil and Gas sectors.
State House, in a statement, said "The transformation of the Heads of State Economic Forum into the Bi-National Commission has also provided an impetus to further enhance
bilateral cooperation and a platform to exchange views on issues of mutual interest and concern at the regional level. "
South Africa continues to be Namibia’s top trading partner on the continent and in the world at large, both in terms of exports and imports.
In 2022, total trade between Namibia and South Africa stood at N$67.1 billion, an increase of 13.5 percent from the N$59.1 billion recorded in 2021.
President Geingob's delegation comprises Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Albert Kawana, Minister of Agriculture, Calle Schlettwein, Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo, Justice Minister Ivonne Dausab and Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta as well the Director-General of National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze among other senior government officials from respect ministers and offices.
