Deputy Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Faustina Caley handed over four hostel blocks, a matron's quarter, a kitchen, a dining hall, two ablution blocks, and two teacher houses to Omuhonga Combined School.

The facilities were constructed at a cost of more than N$79.5 million.

Omuhonga Combined School has grades zero to eleven, and the facility was dilapidated, with no accommodation for both teachers and learners.

Against this background, the school was selected as a beneficiary of the Africa Development Bank's financial assistance.

"Hostel facilities at our schools provide an environment that is home away from home for our children. We don't want parents to worry when their children are in the hostel; therefore, our staff members who have to take care of the children must assist us in making these children feel at home away from their own home. The children do not need to travel so long distances every day to access education, that's why the provision of the hostel is made." said Caley.

Caley noted that the ministry is getting there as far as access to education is concerned.

The deputy minister also reminded parents that education is a shared responsibility, and the ministry can only build and maintain the facilities.

"As far as education is concerned, and I mean access to education, we are getting there; I am not talking about quality but giving access. Imagine this place from 38 learners to 486, if all of us can Harambee, move in the same direction as far as government projects are concerned, we will get there. And it is the responsibility of our staff members, especially our teachers, and our supporting staff at the school level to respond to this gesture by performing."

Speaking at the same occasion was Kunene Governor, Marius Sheya.

"I am a very delighted young man to stand here today at Omuhonga and to see this infrastructure being developed. If I recall very well, like the previous speaker who is representing the traditional authority, the last time I was here at this school, I was here with my director of education, and we were here because it was a very difficult issue for the leaders of the community to extend a certain portion of the land where we are today for the school infrastructure to be built there."

The Omuhonga Combined School has 486 learners.
