The acting Chief Executive Officer of CENORED, Gawie Awaseb, has assured the residents of Okahandja that the power supply will not be disconnected.
This follows NamPower's announcement of the electricity disconnection of all its defaulting clients.
Awaseb clarified that CENORED does not owe NamPower money, but the joint venture company, CENORED Okahandja JV, and Okahandja Municipality.
CENORED owed NamPower over N$60 million in 2017, which Awaseb says has since been reduced to N$2 million.
The acting CEO emphasised that the company was not supposed to appear on the list of defaulters; however, this has been clarified following a meeting with NamPower.
"We reaffirmed our relationship with NamPower, communication is sound, and I can confidently reassure the community members of Okahandja, the customers, and the businesses that Okahandja is off the list and the power will not be cut. The outstanding N$2 million will be paid in a short period of time, and we will maintain that account the same way we maintain the CENORED account, which is current and up-to-date."
In a statement, NamPower says it is owed in excess of a billion dollars by its clients.
Defaulters will be disconnected in stages as of the 5th of next month if they do not settle their accounts by the last day of this month.
