The National African Student's Association (NASA) has launched its national 10,000-membership campaign at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.
The student representative body hopes to register students from UNAM's Katima campus as well as the Zambezi Vocational Training Centre.
Speaking at the event, the association's president, Paulus Vihemba, said the aim is to register new members from all of the country's 14 regions.
"In order for us to advocate for the needs of the students, our aims, and achieve free education and guarantee that all students get access to education, we thought if we can achieve this, we can only achieve this if we have a mass-based association."
Vihemba said the association is not only targeting students from tertiary institutions but basic education as well.
In the near future, NASA will also make provisions for unemployed graduates.
"We must build an organisation that is based on membership, that is based on the people that understand what we fight for, so that when we are going to go on that journey, we have people who understand what we want to achieve, and we have people who can also contribute on how we can do better on what we want to achieve."
Vihemba also said that the association aims to fill in gaps in student representation and will address pertinent issues in the education system.
