More than 400 households now have electricity in the Omaheke Region, thanks to the collaboration between the regional council and CENORED.

This was revealed during the commissioning of the electrification project at Drimopsis in the Kalahari constituency by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba.

"We recognise electricity and the role it plays in fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and improving the standards of living of all our citizens. With the commissioning of these electrification projects, we are not just flicking the switch to eliminate settlements and villages; we are igniting a spark that will fuel the engine of progress in every corner of our nation. We are bringing light to places that have been in darkness for far too long, providing opportunities that were once unimaginable, and empowering communities to unlock their full potential," said Mbumba.

Mbumba added that the electrification programme represents an important element in the overall direction and drive of local economic growth.

Also speaking on the occasion was CENORED Board Chairperson Moses Matyayi: "CENORED remains committed to the Namibian Vision 2030, and as role players, we want to see Namibia with communities and other settlements that are hubs of cultural and economic rejuvenation with modernised infrastructure and people with access to the necessities of life, including shelter, water, energy, public transport, and access to modern information and technology."

On his part, the regional governor, Pijoo Nganate, has this to say: "Electricity is critical to modern economic activity, an essential input to many public services, and a yardstick upon which the gross domestic trend of any region or country is measured."

To date, CENORED has spent more than N$7 million in the Omaheke Region as part of rural electrification projects.
