President Hage Geingob has conferred an official funeral on the late Pelagia Eelu, who died in a Windhoek hospital on May 4.
Eelu was a supporter of the country's liberation struggle, with her house serving as an operational base for PLAN combatants in the 1980s.
She is remembered as an educator who was passionate about her community.
Her house was a stopover for many young men and women crossing the border to join the armed struggle.
Those close to Eelu described her as a fearless woman whose residence became a logistic hub for a large number of weapons and ammunition, particularly when launching attacks on enemy bases.
It's reported that, despite being frequently searched and assaulted by the South African Forces, Eelu never shared any information with them.
.
She was awarded the Grand Commander of the Most Excellent Order of Namibia on September 20th, 2003, by Founding President Sam Nujoma.
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, the 19th, at Oshitutuma Village in the Omusati Region, while the funeral service will take place on the 20th, also at Oshitutuma.
Eelu died at the age of 99 and is survived by five children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
