President Hage Geingob described the late Nahas Mukwaita Ndevahoma as a community activist for social change, a passionate educator, and a patriot who dedicated his life to the liberation of Namibia.
The 81-year-old Ndevahoma, who was conferred an official funeral, was buried at Okongo in Ohangwena Region.
Ndevahoma became a teacher at the age of 24 and later a school principal.
He performed his duties with excellence, and his unique teaching methods enabled his students to perform exceptionally well in their fields of study.
Beyond teaching, Ndevahoma was also actively engaged in the academic community.
In his contribution to the liberation struggle, Ndevahoma's home fed, housed, and assisted PLAN freedom fighters.
This is in addition to other schemes he established with fellow educators to care for the PLAN combatants.
These are the good deeds that the Head of State, through a message read on his behalf, applauded.
"Indeed, today we say goodbye to our hero. I want to encourage the widow and children of comrade Ndevahoma to hold their heads high and draw solace from the public testimony that their beloved husband and father have lived a commendable life dedicated to the good of the Namibian people and have now, after having accomplished the mission, departed to a well-deserved rest."
Ndevahoma was also deeply involved in the community upliftment agenda and treated and welcomed the community of Okongo as if they were his own.
Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba and Founding President Sam Nujoma also sent their messages of condolence.
Ndevahoma is survived by his wife, Taimi, and six children.
