Learners of PK De Villiers Secondary School at Keetmanshoop started their winter donation drive by serving a warm meal and donating winter clothes to vulnerable community members in the southern town.

The donation drive is an initiative of the Learners Representative Council.

The PK De Villiers SS Head Boy Ibrahim Karool said it was very important so they can cater to the community, because the community has always been looking back at the school so it is time that they accommodate the stakeholders of PK De Villiers, to say, "we know you and we see you as a community and we are also part of that community and we know where there is lack so we had to see to it that we give back to the community."

"So we decided to have this donation drive to give back to that because it does not feel right, you are sleeping comfortably and people are out there getting cold so we decided to do this donation drive," said PK De Villiers SSnHead Girl Delmain Cloete.

The PK De Villiers SS LRC member William |Hoa-Kaob said, "Think of other people's circumstances as your own and use that encouragement because if you were in that same situation you would want the next person to help you out of that situation."

For Leon Esterhuizen, the warm soup is just what he needed to kick start his day, being unemployed, Esterhuizen depends on any form of handout.

"I am so so happy for all the things you are doing for us, I am happy."

The LRC of PK De Villiers Secondary School has pledged to continue to play its part by assisting the most vulnerable members of society.
