Arrested activist Michael Amushelelo appeared at the Katutura Magistrate Court on Monday, and lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, who is representing Amushelelo, announced that the state continues to oppose bail after his client's arrest.

Amoomo wrote on his social media that Amushelelo, who is being housed at the Windhoek Correctional Facility, will now be held in solitary confinement out of fear that he may politically influence other offenders.

Namibian Correctional Services officials, however, informed nbc News that they were not aware that Amushelelo had been put in solitary confinement due to the reasons provided by his lawyer.

Amushelelo, PDM parliamentarian Inna Hengari, and activist Dimbulukeni Nauyoma were arrested on March 21, during a process in which they were busy calling off a planned protest against unemployment.
