The group's spokesperson, Joseph Kambala, called on the ministries of Finance and Public Enterprises and Agriculture, Water and Land Reform to intervene and investigate Meatco's financial affairs. They are further appealing for the operationalization of the Rundu abattoir for workers to get an income.
Kambala also complained about the extension of the term of office for Meatco Board members and wants it withdrawn. He blamed MeatCo's Board of Directors for allegedly refusing management to attend to their calls.
The workers further complained about the poor management of the company, citing the alleged recruitment of unqualified people into positions.
MeatCo's leadership received the petition.
"We will make sure that the board and management sit down and make sure that we address the issue, and then we report back to NAFAU accordingly. Thank you so much," says MeatCo CEO Mwilima Mushokabanji.
