Learners have been urged to make use of the life skills teachers to get acquainted with what the job market demands early enough to make the right choices.
The call was made by various speakers at Eros Girls School, where they addressed learners on the importance of career guidance, pre-vocational education, technical and vocational education training, as well as early childhood development.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the |Khomas Governor, councillor for the Khomasdal Constituency Samuel Angolo highlighted the importance of career guidance.
"The career guidance ceremonies such as this one are meant to mobilise and sensitise the learners and students about the significance of a clear career path or career choice to create a culture of networking and benchmarking, interaction, and information sharing, provide information on the different economic sectors in our country, give insight on the labour market, and give career guidance on the right choice for a brighter future and vision."
Angolo added that vocational education has been an important part of the educational landscape as it helps learners learn the skills needed to enter the workforce and provides them with the opportunity to explore different careers.
The Deputy Executive Director for Lifelong Learning in the ministry, Gerard Vries, noted that learners who are guided in choosing their future careers do not encounter problems when it comes to job hunting.
"Grab the opportunity to get acquainted with the demand out there. You are also very privileged to get exposure to job shadowing and eventually job attachment, which could indicate whether you are ready for the career you chose."
The Head Girl of Eros Girls School, Jo-Annie Manuel, called on the government to support efforts aimed at bridging the digital divide and ensuring that they are not exposed to online harm.
'We would like to be provided with technological facilities as we try to find our space in the digital era. We understand that the world is moving in the direction of artificial intelligence, and for us to make our mark, we need to first of all make sure we are in a safe, protected environment both physically and digitally, and then we are provided with the resources we need."
