Omusati Governor Erginus Endjala has expressed concern over the low allocation of resettlement farms in his region.

In his State of the Region Address on Friday, Governor Erginus Endjala revealed that a total of 622 resettlement applications from Omusati were passed on to the Land Ministry. However, of all those, only one person received a favourable response.

This fact, he says, is a source of grey hair for him.

"If there is something that makes me feel a little bit sad, me being chairperson of this resettlement committee, and we spend the whole year going through applications before we go forward to head office. Unfortunately, with 622 applications per year, the only good answer is one per year, but it does augur well. "

Endjala, without mincing his words, said farmers with many livestock were encouraged to apply for commercial land, but the low allocation of farms, which almost equates to zero, is a drawback.

He added that Omusati is one of the highest populated regions, with fights for grazing land and living space an ongoing battle between humans and livestock.

He said the only way to ease these farmers' burdens is for them to apply for commercial land, though given the low allocation of resettlement farms to residents, this appears a distant dream.
