The All People's Party (APP) has announced the expulsion of its former Secretary General, Vincent Kanyetu, merely two days following his resignation.

The move has sparked debate about the timing and implications of the expulsion, with some critics saying the development comes too late and is of no effect.

Kanyetu, who served as the Secretary General of the APP, submitted his resignation dated August 7th, 2023, but he officially stepped down on August 19th.

Kanyetu's resignation, he says, is a personal choice driven by his desire to uphold family harmony and honour.

The party's subsequent decision to expel him has added a layer of complexity to the situation.

The party revealed that Kanyetu was expelled based on six counts of misconduct.

Among the charges levelled against him, for which he was found guilty, are his alleged failure to maintain records of previous minutes; improper handling of loan requisitions from the acting party president, Erastus Nangolo Shuumbwa; support for the formation of a rival political party in the Kavango regions; and withholding financial compliance information.

Some critics have speculated that the expulsion may hold more theoretical significance than practical implications, considering Kanyetu's preemptive step-down.

Political analyst Dr. Ndumba Kamwanyah stated that the party is grappling with the challenge of filling the leadership vacuum left by its founding president, Ignatius Shixwameni.

The APP defended its actions, stating that it had a duty to address alleged misconduct.

Despite acknowledging Kanyetu's past influence and support as Secretary General, the party says it remains committed to rebuilding its reputation and regaining voter support.

Dr. Kamwanyah, however, says the fallout from this incident is likely to have ramifications for both Kanyetu and the party, given the upcoming presidential and national assembly elections in 2024.

Venitus Goraseb has been appointed acting Secretary General in the wake of Kanyetu's expulsion.
