Speaking at the ACC Song Competition, Erongo Governor Neville Andre says corruption has, for far too long, cost Namibia both economically and socially and eroded trust.

Although Namibia's score remained unchanged at 49 on the 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index, the country actually fell one spot to 59 on the global indicator of public sector corruption.

The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be.

Andre says issues such as bribery, fraud, the use of office for gratification, and the misuse of public funds threaten to erode the trust between the government and the people.

However, addressing this challenge is not solely the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies, and platforms such as ACC's school choir competition can be one of the tools to fight corruption.

"By harnessing the power of music as a force against corruption, we can reach out to a wider audience that might otherwise be disinterested in political discourse. Songs that speak out against dishonesty and advocate for transparency will serve as rallying cries for everyone who seeks change in Namibia."

nbc Director General Stanley Similo and Acting Director General of the ACC, Erna Van Der Merwe, also added their voices.

The acting Director General of ACC, Erna van der Merwe, says, "The key to a successful fight against corruption in Namibia will be the delivery of a corruption-free attitude transformation among Namibians. This can only be accomplished by planting anti-corruption seeds that can grow into a mature anti-corruption tree. Furthermore, we must recognise that the Ministry of Education, Art, and Culture plays an important role in shaping the character of our children."
