Gender-based violence (GBV) shelters are faced with staff shortages, resulting in operational limitations.

In a ministerial statement, the Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka, addressed the issue regarding the operational status of government-funded shelters in the National Assembly.
Minister Sioka also emphasised the role of private shelters that are subsidised by the government in support of GBV survivors.

"The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare remains committed to its mandate and responsibility, while the operational status of the shelters is a pressing concern. It is crucial to understand that a single challenge should not overshadow the ministry's broad wake and its unwavering dedication to the well-being of our Namibian nation."

Sioka stated that the ministry is actively working on initiatives to resolve staffing challenges and aims to bring government-operated shelters to full operational status.
