The Walvis Bay Mayoral Fund has collected close to N$1 million during a  fundraising dinner to establish a youth center in Narraville, Walvis Bay.

Walvis Bay Mayor Trevino Forbes emphasised the significant role the Mayoral Relief Fund plays in addressing various challenges communities are faced with.
 Forbes says over the past three years, his office has received numerous requests highlighting the pressing need for youth development and empowerment initiatives, hence the need to establish a youth centre.
 
He says the youth centre will play a critical role in shaping the local economy by supporting entrepreneurship programmes and fostering creativity.
 
"Engaging the youth in productive and empowering programmes will not only keep their programmes away from negative influence but also equip them with the necessary skills, as the young centre would serve as a vital hub for engaging and empowering our young population. It would provide a safe space for them to learn, grow, and develop important life skills by investing in the future of our town."
 
He added that the centre would also help tackle some challenges faced by communities by providing access to educational resources, job training programmes, and mentorship opportunities.
 
"We can significantly reduce the unemployment rate and open doors to better economic prospects. Additionally, a young centre will foster a sense of belonging and community, creating a supportive environment that encourages personal growth and responsible decision-making."

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation, Natalia |Goagoses, says the next generation must be built on the backbone of unity.

"We want for our Namibian youth to grow. Congratulations once again, the mayor of Walvis Bay, with all your councillors, because this is not for your glory, my son, this is for the nation because the nation, one of the biggest pillars on which a nation stands today for tomorrow, is the youth, so, therefore, it is a very, very relevant and thoughtful view."
