The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) is developing a National Digital Strategy to unlock various opportunities and fast-track Namibia's digital transformation.

The strategy will guide the nation in leveraging digital technologies for sustainable development, economic growth, and social progress.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus says the ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to drive Namibia's digitalization agenda in alignment with the strategic plan.

Theofelus, however, stressed the need to enhance online safety for all citizens.

"We recognise that Namibia must strategically position itself as an offshoring destination for digital services. The ongoing consultations and forthcoming enactment of the data protection bill by the Ministry of ICT are instrumental steps towards this goal."

She says that the theme of the summit, "Hacking for e-government," was to provide solutions for enhancing e-government, which is aimed at developing a government content hub.

She also encouraged the youth to grab opportunities offered in the digital sector.

"Our young people can take the following steps: skill development: acquire skills in digital technologies such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, web development, and cybersecurity. Continuous learning and upskilling are essential to staying relevant in the dynamic digital landscape we seek."

The summit also gave exposure to 19 young exhibitors who presented the latest innovations and inventions.

The 7th National ICT Summit was attended by about 400 delegates and over 60 local and international exhibitors.
