Magistrate Linus Samunzala has acquitted activists Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma of all charges, citing poor quality and multiple contradictions in the evidence of state witnesses.

Amushelelo had spent close to seven months in incarceration since his arrest for independence this year.

The activist, along with Nauyoma and Inna Hengari, were arrested and faced several charges, including malicious damage to property.

Magistrate Samunzala found the evidence of the complainant, Chief Inspector Frederick Ndjatila, who was the key witness in the state's case, immaterial.

The magistrate also disregarded another piece of oral evidence by one of the police officers, saying that it was contradictory.

He added that no competent court could convict the accused based on evidence provided by the state.

During the trial, the state called eight witnesses, all of them members of NamPol.
