More than 200 residents of the Nova informal settlement in Katima Mulilo have finally received offers to purchase the residential plots.

The residents have been occupying the land for years after they were relocated by the town council.

The residents, who were initially moved from town land earmarked for developmental projects they had illegally occupied, welcomed the move after years of uncertainty regarding land ownership.

The plots cost an average of N$9,000, which will be paid over a period of five years.

The Katima Mulilo Town Council has provided water, and its Chief Executive Officer, Raphael Liswaniso, has urged residents to make payments for further development.

Liswaniso urged those who are ready to build permanent structures to start doing so, while also warning owners of unoccupied plots to ensure the cleanliness of their areas or give them up to those in need.
