NDP's Simasiku Mukendwa sworn in as councillor

The National Democratic Party's (NDP) Simasiku Mukendwa has finally been sworn in as a councillor in the Katima Mulilo Town Council.

Watson Kalaluka, who was dismissed by the party earlier this year for allegedly staining the party's reputation and neglecting to provide the political party with monthly council reports and comments, was replaced by Mukendwa.

He also reportedly failed to honour a 30% stop-order agreement with the party.

Katima Council gives land to residents of Nova informal settlement

More than 200 residents of the Nova informal settlement in Katima Mulilo have finally received offers to purchase the residential plots.

The residents have been occupying the land for years after they were relocated by the town council.

The residents, who were initially moved from town land earmarked for developmental projects they had illegally occupied, welcomed the move after years of uncertainty regarding land ownership.

The plots cost an average of N$9,000, which will be paid over a period of five years.

NFCPT gears to celebrate 11th annual Fish Consumption Day

The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) is gearing up for the 11th annual Fish Consumption Day, to be held in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.

The NFCPT commenced their promotional campaign with a road show, which will, for the first time, cover all six constituencies of the region between September 20 and 29.

On September 30, after the road show, there will be celebrations honouring Fish Consumption Day at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex.
 
The event will be officiated by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Derek Klazen.

More investment needed in agricultural sector - NDP

The National Democratic Party (NDP) is calling on the Namibian government to invest more in the agricultural sector to address poverty and unemployment.

The party president, Martin Lukato, said that Zambezi Region can become the country's breadbasket but lacks fully fledged agricultural projects such as green schemes that can contribute to the country's development and food security.
