The Kavango West Regional Council has signed an agreement with Metzeger Koranyara Trading to improve the socio-economic status of the region and collaborate in key development areas.
 
 The two institutions will collaborate in social responsibility, agriculture production, value addition, tourism, internship programmes and economic development.
 
Chief Regional Officer in the Kavango West Regional Council Matheus Singambwe explained.
 
“No country can be developed by government alone. Public-private partnerships are therefore very important to us as a regional government. We appreciate the current 8th Administration for making things work and moving away from business as usual. We have identified seven key priority areas, which public entities need to support. One of these is agricultural production. For us, agricultural production is not only about cultivating crops and raising livestock to provide food, feed and raw materials. It is also an economic means of providing livelihoods.”

Singambwe added that despite the good work already done by Metzeger Koranyara Trading, a formalised MoU creates trust and certainty and ensures that each party understands its role.
 
Metzeger Koranyara Trading is currently operating at the Musese Green Scheme and at Kanyikama.

“We need to support each other. In the future, we know that Musese and Kanyikama are communal land, and we are aware of the land issues. We urgently need public-private partnerships to formalise this arrangement and ensure that ownership of Metzeger is transferred more into the hands of the councils. That is very important because the councils have exactly the same ideas, views and vision as we do.”

The agreement is valid for five years.
