Four visually impaired women have graduated from Debmarine's Standing with Women and Girls training programme.
Debmarine sponsored the training of visually impaired women through the Nomad African Spa to become massage therapists.
The programme upskills the participants to become massage therapists in sports and physiotherapy, among other areas.
The women are empowered with essential skills and opportunities to excel in their professional lives.
On behalf of Debmarine Namibia, Stanford Isaacs says that the massage training programme is specifically designed for visually impaired women.
"In a world that often underestimates the capability of visually impaired individuals, it is our responsibility to provide opportunities for empowerment. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to excel, despite any physical limitations they may face. It is through initiatives like this that we make a teachable difference and deserve equal opportunities."
He noted that, by sponsoring the programme, they enable the participating women to pursue careers that emphasise human connection and healing.
Debmarine Namibia remains committed to supporting these women and girls in breaking the stigma around visual impairment.
Here is what one of the graduates had to say.
"Before I came here, I used to massage, or do a massage, for everybody in the house. Massage has been my favourite since birth. I like many things, but I cannot sleep without massaging my mom. So in industry, people never think of us, especially the impaired; we are also human beings because they discriminate against us," says graduate Josephine Marthina.
