In a poignant tribute, the congregants of the Tanidare Church, together with the Otjomuise Brass Band, resonated memories of a musical legacy as they paid their final respects to the renowned late music conductor, Axali Doëseb.
In this same church, while leading the brass band, Axali Doëseb recently stood and informed them that it would be his last time conducting them.
Little did anyone know that these prophetic words held a cryptic and sad meaning.
ELCRN's Tanidare Parish pastor, Collin Cloete, recalled the late Doëseb's final moments in the church and his impact on the congregation, particularly on the musical side.
"It was here, right here, where Axali stood and told us that this would be his final act as our conductor. We had no idea that it would truly be his last performance."
Herson Von Francois, a close friend and former classmate at Okahandja High School, shared the late Doëseb's passion for music.
"Axali and I, we shared a dream. His path led him to Germany, where he took up music as a career, opening doors for himself and many others. He recalled the last time he visited this church, standing right here, and it was where he was happiest."
Axali Doëseb, the conductor and composer of the Namibian National Anthem, left an indelible mark on the world of music and the hearts of those he touched.
His legacy lives on through his compositions, and the echoes of his music continue to resonate in the church that he so dearly cherished.
