The police regional commander for Ohangwena has urged residents and visitors to adhere to the law.
Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, in the same vein, encouraged police officers to work diligently and treat citizens equally before the law.
The Ohangwena Regional Commander says boots will be on the ground as police visibility intensifies during the festive season operation to keep the region safe.
Efforts to fight crime, she says, should not be left in the hands of the police alone; the public remains a key stakeholder in assisting the police to accelerate investigations and effect arrests.
"It takes a lot of planning, commitment, and determination to make this campaign a success. We are therefore pleading with all stakeholders and the community at large to work together as a team to reduce crime in the region."
The region, which is home to over 250,000 inhabitants, has seen a general reduction in crimes committed between last year and this year.
Theft cases, which stood at 983 last year, have now decreased to 674; assault cases stood at 667 in 2022 and are currently at 403; rape cases stood at 185; and this year, 107 were recorded, among others.
However, incidents of stock theft increased from 101 in 2022 to 127 this year.
"Given the statistics, I am therefore urging all residents of the Ohangwena Region to comply with the law. Furthermore, all law enforcement officers tasked with various duties during this festive season campaign are urged to be vigilant and commit to executing their duties without fear or favour."
