In a significant development for sports in the northern part of Namibia, the Okahao Town Council recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the transformation of the Ehao Cultural Expo Center into a state-of-the-art multipurpose sports field.

The event took place at the Ehao Cultural Expo Centre in the Omusati Region, drawing the participation of notable figures in the sports community.

Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Emma Kantema-Gaomas, delivered a keynote address at the ceremony, highlighting the positive impact the construction of the sports facility would have on the local youth. The project, consisting of three phases, aims to not only benefit the community of Okahao but also nearby towns and regions in terms of sports development.

Mayor Cornelia Iiyambula expressed her enthusiasm for the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasizing its significance in initiating comprehensive sports development in the region. The event was graced by the presence of former track and field world champion, Frank Fredericks, who generously contributed 1.2 million towards the project as one of the sponsors.

With an overall investment of 8 million, the first phase of the sports field project has already commenced, with earth-moving vehicles on-site under the supervision of Kambwa Trading CC. This marks an exciting step forward in the creation of a modern sports facility that will cater to a range of sporting activities upon its completion.

The transformation of the Ehao Cultural Expo Center into a multipurpose sports field signifies a major milestone for Okahao and the surrounding areas, reflecting the commitment to promoting sports and providing opportunities for the local youth. The groundbreaking ceremony sets the stage for future sports development in the region, fostering a vibrant sporting culture and contributing to the overall growth of the community.
