Farmers at Okomungondo Village in the Omaheke Region have lost 100 heads of cattle due to drought.

The Vice Headman of Okomungondo, Tjipetekera Kamuhanga, told nbc News that this year's drought affected many households livelihoods.

He says farmers could also not sell their livestock because of the prices that have gone down.

The water shortage has also worsened the situation as existing water infrastructure has dilapidated.

"In this village, we have lost more than 100 heads of cattle. The previous years were better compared to this year. Everyday, we collect the ear tags of cattle that have succumbed to drought effects."

Kamuhanga stated that villagers benefited from drought relief only once so far.

Aminuis Councillor Peter Kazongominja says his office is aware of the challenges faced by the farming community in many other parts of the region, and the government is working hard to assist farmers and all those affected by drought.
