Motorists who have not settled their traffic fines with the City Police are encouraged to pay their dues while they have time.

The City Police's Head of Operation, Deputy Chief Eliaser Iiyambo, revealed that there are about 40 000 warrants of arrest for traffic fines in the |Khomas Region.

"I am just urging members of the public to come forth and check if they have outstanding warrants of arrest, so if you have one, we will facilitate the process to go to court because we will just take you through the process rather than take you to court, where the court will deal with the matter."

Iiyambo also cautioned home owners not to leave their houses unsupervised.

"I would like to urge members of the public that when they are living in their houses, they should notify the neighbours to take care and also our office so that when our members do patrols, they can pay a visit to inspect."

He says the City Police Crime Prevention Unit will, however, be on standby this festive season.

"We have an ongoing operation, and this is between City Police and NamPol. We are targeting housebreakings and arm robberies, and we have members carrying out the operations in different zones with Windhoek municipality."
