With two days to go before the cross-over to 2024, the City of Windhoek (CoW) has promised a bigger and better New Year's Bash.

Windhoek residents have been promised a spectacular show of fireworks and performances lined up.

The corporate communications officer at the municipality, Cillie Kapolo, says they have introduced a photo booth and an SMS line where people can send well wishes. Messages will be displayed on the large monitors to be set up at the event.

"This year's bash is unlike any other. We have a whole lot of new activities and features. For example, we have the theme of an all-white party. So I expect everyone that is going to attend. We are requesting that everyone attend the event. We wanted to showcase the diversity as well as the talent of our local artists countrywide. So we opened a call for applications from different musical genres. And we received quite a number of applications, based on factors such as the quality of the music, how relatable each is to our theme, as well as the popularity."

Kapolo highlighted the DO's and DON'Ts during the New Year's bash.

"We just request or educate residents that there are certain rules that they must adhere to; for instance, firearms are prohibited at the venue. Please do not do it for safety purposes. Alcohol is prohibited; do not bring alcohol, but I said there will be drinks at the venue, so you can bring your empty cola box and come fill up with all the drinks of your choice and snacks at the venue. Just don't bring your alcohol there for safety. I mean for safety reasons. And we also do not allow fireworks because, as I said, we've already prepared a spectacular show of fireworks for people to enjoy as we count down to 2024. So those are some of the prohibitions."

The city, along with the security cluster, are working to ensure everyone's safety.
