As the first day of the school calendar year dawned on Namibia, the nbc News team paid a visit to some schools in Rundu.
At Dr. Alpo Mbamba Secondary School, a number of parents were waiting in the queue to register their children for the new academic year.
The school hall was occupied with teachers, diligently assisting parents with the registration process.
The principal says that as much as it is the beginning of the new school year, teaching and learning have to take a backseat for today.
Even though registration started
Thursday and Friday last week, the school says very few parents showed up.
Elia Neromba Secondary School was no different, as parents filled the corridors, also for registration.
Despite the ongoing administration work, the acting principal says teaching will continue simultaneously.
But even then, a compromise had to be made.
At Sauyemwa Junior Primary School, even though lessons are in full swing, some learners are still spending time outside the classrooms.
But this is because the school has a platoon system and the learners are just awaiting their turn.
It was a busy day, with parents once again camping on the school premises. But the principal says the majority are not here to register. A large portion are actually waiting to offer their financial support.
Most schools say they will move their registration process to the afternoon.
The registration process for learners takes place about two weeks after the start of the academic year.
